CMAS AGM & 50th Anniversary

Dear fellow members,

The CMAS Annual General Meeting took place in Phuket at the beginning of May, when CMAS also celebrated it's 50th. Anniversary.[CMAS was founded by Jacques Cousteau].

CMAS is the worldwide governing body for water sports and also works hard to protect and preserve our seas worldwide.

The Sub Aqua Association is the representative for CMAS Great Britain and it is good to be a part of an organisation that works hard for all scuba divers and the preservation of our oceans.

Unfortunately, this 50th. Anniversary has been saddened, soon after, by the loss of Mr. Walter Tichy in a climbing accident. Walter was a member of the CMAS Board of Directors and had also held the position of President of the Technical Committee of CMAS.

He was also a very good friend and supporter of the Sub Aqua Association and he attended the SAA 25th Anniversary celebrations in 2001.

Walter will be sadly missed by all who new him and will be hard to replace.

Our most respecful condolences go to his family and to the Austrian Federation.
