A quick note on a recent trip to Scapa flow. It was a combined club trip with Wharf Divers, Archers and one Leeds Freediver (me).
We were fortunate to be there for the 90th anniversary of the scuttling of the German fleet. Whilst blessed with the weather above the water line the visibility below left something to be desired.
The Crew of the MV Valkyrie have an excellent knowledge of the wrecks in the area and have what must be the most comfortable live-aboard in the Orkneys! The kitchen and living area, with widescreen tv, stereo and dvd player will provide plenty of foul weather entertainment if you aren't lucky enough to get clement weather through the trip. The diver lift deserves special mention for ensuring an easy exit after each dive.
The Pubs (all three) aren't far away, in fact if you trip up on your way off the boat you are altready half-way to the Ferry Inn and some good hand pulled beer, or a warming dram. Helen is an excellent chef, and there are always seconds, and desert available. We were expecting a good diving experience it turned out to be a great cullinary one too, so much that near the end of the week the combined weight of diver + kit + dinner + chocolate pudding temporarily broke the diver lift. One word of warning- ensure there is plenty of room in your drysuit on the offset and plan some time in the gym on your return!
