Dear Club Member
We have just completed negotiations with our insurers, for next year’s insurance premiums for third party public liability and personal accident. Our insurers have negotiated the best possible deal on our behalf, however, due to the fact that the personal accident has paid out three claims of £10,000 and there are still three cases pending, as expected there have been significant increases in premiums for 2010.
Over the last two years we have not increased the fees and have sustained a trading deficit, with our reserves covering this. It is imperative that we trade this year covering all of our expenditure. Having studied our financial position and proposed expenditure for the next twelve months, which includes strict budgets which will be vehemently adhered to, the Executive and National Council have agreed, on my recommendation, that we increase the subscriptions by £5 per person across the membership fees with the exception of associate membership which will rise by £3.
The above decision was not taken lightly, and was certainly the general feeling of those present at the NDO workshop, whose opinion we sought. This increase, actually only reflects a rise of £1.33p per year over three years of trading.
We still believe that the SAA offers our membership excellent value third party public liability cover and we are the only diving organisation to offer personal accident insurance.
