The SAA and DDRC are setting up a Decompression Illness Workshop for Divers (not doctors) - Keep in Mind that this Workshop is about the ILLNESS not tables or personal decompression computers (PDCs). The language will be English (ie non-medical street language). We are desperate that all divers hear about this event. An open invitation is extended to all divers

Decompression illness (DCI) has no respect for your experience, knowledge, skills or training and even hits on Diving Officers, instructors and tekkies. Around 50% of divers presenting for DCI treatment have dived within the limits of the tables or computers used. So, the big question then must be: How can I better protect myself from DCI? To address this question DDRC and the SAA are joining forces on Saturday 11th September 2010 to present a DCI Workshop for Divers.

The event outline:
1.     Three divers will tell of their very ordinary dives that ended with DCI and their  doctors will explain the treatment.
2.    Current thinking on PFOs and other mechanisms that might spoil your day.
3.    Divers in Denial - why does it happen and what are the consequences?
4.    DCI Avoidance - going beyond tables and personal dive computers.
5.    “Ask our experts” session.

This year DDRC celebrates 30 years as a charity committed to excellence in treatment, research and education. This DCI Workshop is one of a series of events, which includes a black tie dinner at the National Marine Aquarium on the evening of 10th September.
